Zambia coach spits fire: Ndola clash is nothing but war
With just 48 hours to the Russia 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifier between Zambia and Nigeria, coach of Chipolopolo, Wedson Nyirenda has declared that the clash billed for the city of Ndola on Sunday is nothing but a soccer war which his side must win.
Agency reports monitored in Lagos yesterday quoted Nyirenda who is only an interim manager of the Zambian national team as saying that he is on a history making mission, which is to see Zambia qualify for her first ever World Cup.
“We just have to qualify…we have to qualify for the World Cup for the first time,” Nyirenda stated yesterday.
The coach said his team is looking good ahead of the Group B opener, even as he hailed the return of the duo of skipper Rainford Kalaba and Chisamba Lungu to the squad.
“The arrival of professionals has boosted morale in the team, we are looking good with the brotherliness I am seeing in the team. We are going to retain Rainford Kalaba as captain. I m happy Chisamba has accepted unconditionally to return to the team after I put a call across to him,” Nyirenda said.
Meanwhile, Super Eagles skipper Mikel John Obi said yesterday that the team is ready for the 2018 FIFA World Cup qualification duels.
The Eagles would after playing Zambia away on Sunday host Algeria on 12th November before four more games next year.
“We are all looking forward to the qualifying matches, starting with Sunday’s game in Zambia. Each and every one of us knows what it means – big battles that we have to win. We are ready for the challenge.”
