Tension as military allegedly storm Delta communities in search for militants
There is tension as soldiers are said to have stormed Aladja and Ogbe-Ijoh communities in Udu and Warri South-West Local Government Areas of Delta State in search for Niger Delta militants, DAILY POST can exclusively report.
The is happening at time when there is a renewed crisis between Aladja and Ogbe-Ijoh Communities as both communities have continued their feud after a security meeting convened by the Delta State Government failed to settle the disputed land matter between both communities.
Residents are said to be already packing out of the communities as a result of
the military presence and for fear of intimidation, harassment and
brutalization.
Information had it that some militants who had threatened to declare “Niger Delta Republic” on October 1 had earmarked Ogbe-Ijoh Community as one of the possible places to launch the
declaration.
DAILY POST can report that a Joint Patrol of the Nigerian Army, Navy, Airforce and Police were seen around Aladja and Ogbe-Ijoh Communities
on October 1 at about 10am.
Our correspondent gathered that the crisis between Aladja and Ogbe-Ijoh communities which has taken a new dimension is as a result of an alleged invasion of Aladja Community by some armed youths from Ogbe-Ijoh on Friday June 3.
An indigene of Aladja Community, Mr. Ighotegulor Bezi, who spoke with DAILY POST, accused the Delta State Government, represented by one Prof. Abednego Ekokotu, Chairman of Panel on Disputed Land, of allegedly apportioning a large expanse of Aladja
Mr. Bezi appealed to Governor Arthur Ifeanyi Okowa to mandate
Prof. Abednego Ekokotu to return and complete his job which include demarcation, delineation and survey, in the interest of peace.
