We’ll rid Nigeria of terrorists, says Buratai
Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Tukur Buratai has reiterated determination of the Nigerian military to rid the nation of terrorists and enthrone peace not only in the North East, but, across the country.
The army chief said this when he declared open a training week for the Nigerian Army Finance Corps, Warrant Officers and Senior Non-Commissioned Officers, at the headquarters of the 3 Division, Maxwell Khobe Cantonment in Jos, Plateau State.
Buratai, who was represented by the Commander of Operation Safe Haven, Major General Rogers Nicholas, assured troops battling insurgents in the North East and others engaged in internal security operations in various parts of the country of prompt payment of their allowances to sustain high morale.
“We must remain steadfast, focused, disciplined and professional. Our experience in these operations so far, further re-emphasise the need for professionalism in all aspects of our duties. You must ensure that all troops in the operations get their entitled allowances promptly. This is a definite step in sustaining the morale of fighting troops…”
You have a major responsibility in ensuring that all aspects of troops’ welfare and morale are given utmost priority and prompt attention.”
Earlier in his remarks, Acting Chief of Accounts and Budget (Army), Brigadier General Jahadi Jakko, described the theme of the training, “Towards Achieving Prudent Utilization of Financial Resources for a Professional Responsive Nigerian Army: The Role of NAFC, WOs/SNCOs”, as apt, considering the prevailing economic realities in the country.
He noted that the training was designed to enhance capacity development and update personnel on the application of recent Federal Government public sector financial policies and reforms, regimentation, as well as security of office documents, and pleaded with troops to exercise patience on the payment of their allowances for August and September, which he assured, would be given priority.
“Our primary responsibility is the provision of effective financial administration of all Nigerian Army funds, effective and efficient application of financial resource is an important and necessary condition to sustain the morale of fighting troops”, Gen. Jakko said.
