Marketers Will Pay Naira for Dangote Fuel -IPMAN

Four people have been injured and one has been taken to hospital following a stabbing in Manchester city centre.

A 30-year-old man was tasered and has been arrested on suspicion of serious assault.

The stabbing took place on Market Street and Greater Manchester Police have cordoned the area after receiving reports shortly before 6.20pm.

Footage shows a large police presence on Market Street with MetroLink and bus services affected.

A witness said he said seven or eight police cars speed down Portland Street

Members of the public were seen pinning a suspected knifeman to the ground in the city centre.

'People were shouting, 'get off the tram he's got a knife,' according to a witness who spoke to the Mirror Online.

They added: 'People managed to get him to the floor before he could do any more damage.

'There was a person shouting 'you've stabbed my girlfriend.'

The two people are believed to have suffered stab injuries and their condition is unknown near Piccadilly Gardens in Manchester city centre

A witness said they saw a 'man slashed up and pouring blood outside Ladbrokes in Piccadilly'.

Greater Manchester Police tweeted: 'Police are currently responding to a stabbing in Manchester city centre.

'Shortly before 6.20pm this evening, police were called to reports that two people had been stabbed on Market Street.

'Officers attended and a 30-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of serious assault - a taser was deployed during the arrest. 

The Manchester Metrolink tweeted that Bury and airport services will not call at Shudehill/Market Street near to where the incident took place

'Four people have been injured and one has been taken to hospital for treatment.

'This is being treated as an isolated incident and there is not believed to be any wider threat to the public

'Anyone who witnessed the incident or has footage or information is urged to contact the police.

'Metrolink and bus services are currently affected.' 

A Greater Manchester Police spokesman said they were called at 6.20pm after reports of two people injured

'Anyone with information is urged to call police on 101 quoting incident number 2353 of 12/01/2020, or the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.'

TJ, 30, who witnessed the incident said he saw a man in his 50s holding a rag to his face.

He said the man went into Tesco Express while bleeding and bought a three-litre bottle of cider. 

The incident is understood to have happened near Primark and a police corden remains in place outside the store on Market StreetTransport for Greater Manchester tweeted: 'Due to a police incident on Market Street in the city centre, there is no through route between Piccadilly Gardens and Fountain Street/ High Street

'He went to near Ladbrokes where I reckon it happened and the ground was destroyed in little spots of blood,' TJ added.

He added that someone called A&E and within a 'two to three minutes' police sped down Portland Street.
