Insecurity: OPC Members Detained Over Wakili’s Arrest Released By Police

Three members of the Oodua Peoples’ Congress (OPC) detained by men of the Oyo State Police Command have been released on bail.

The men, who were detained since Sunday for apprehending a suspected Fulani warlord, Iskilu Wakili, were released on Tuesday to the Oyo State Coordinator of OPC, Comrade Rotimi Oguntade also known as Oluomo on health grounds.

Wakili became famous for allegedly terrorising the Ayete community and other adjourning villages in Ibarapa area of Oyo state.

But he denied knowledge of all the accusations levelled against him after he was returned to police custody from the hospital upon his arrest by the OPC men.

The OPC members include Dauda Kazeem, Awodele Adedigba and Ramon Hassan

The OPC men were granted bail at the State Criminal Investigation Department (CID) Iyaganku where they had been kept in custody.

The bail conditions were perfected around 6:50 pm.

According to a source, the release was sequel to the intervention of the Oyo State government and the Aare Ona Kakanfo of Yorubaland, Iba Gani Adams.

Aside from the OPC coordinator, the Special Adviser to Oyo State Governor on Culture and Tourism, Hon. Ademola Akeem Ige and OPC Lawyer were also present at the police station where the trio was released.

Confirming the development, Comrade Oguntade said the OPC members were released so that they can take care of their health conditions, adding they were also to report to the police station at intervals.

He said: “We want to ask for their bail conditions that we should stand as surety.

“But due to their health condition that they are not feeling well. And we agreed that we will be bringing them back anytime they want to see them.

“So, it’s not like they just released them like that, so that it won’t be contrary to the agreement reached with the police because we agreed that we will still be bringing them back.

“They have been released due to their health condition because they fell sick in custody and they handed them over to their State Coordinator and they are to be brought back later.”

Oyo police spokesperson, Olugbenga Fadeyi, also confirmed the release was based on their health status.

Fadeyi said: “Based on their health status, they have been released to their Coordinator. That was the condition of their bail.”
