FOUNDER of Premier Lotto, Chief Adebutu Kesington, was on Saturday installed as the Odole-Oodua by the Ooni of Ife, Oba Enitan Adeyeye Ogunwusi, Ojaja II.
The first installation rite was done for him by the Owa Eredumi of Ife, Omiwenu Odeyele, at the Oranmiyan shrine known as Igbo Eede.
In attendance were the Vice President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, the former President, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, Governors of Osun, Ogun and Lagos States, Gboyega Oyetola, Dapo Abiodun and Babajide Sanwo-Olu, the Minister for Interior, Rauf Aregbesola, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, and prominent traditional rulers among others.
Adebutu’s wives, Caroline and Amina, were also conferred with the title of Yeyemode and Yeyerewa Oodua respectively at the event.
Speaking at the event, President Muhammadu Buhari, represented by Osinbajo, stressed the need for Nigerians to make the nation work, saying the nation’s unity is not negotiable.
He charged the Odole to use his new title to promote the culture and tradition of the Yoruba race.
He said: “The legacies that the holders of the title of Odole must work for are unity, peace and progress of the Yoruba race and Nigeria in general as well as promotion of culture and tradition of the race. I urge Sir Adebutu to maintain this and even do more in the interests of the black race.”
In his address, Aregbesola said the holders of the title of Odole, starting from the late sage, Chief Obafemi Awolowo, have done so well in promoting unity, peace and progress of the country.
Son of Chief Adebutu, Ladi, said the family would collectively make efforts to ensure that the Yoruba race remain united. According to him, there is need for the Yoruba to reflect on their present position and find a way of making things work better by being united.
He commended the Ooni for spearheading unity and progress of the Yoruba people, saying his father will join hand with Oba Ogunwusi in acheiving a united Yoruba race.
The Odole title was conferred on the late Chief Obafemi Awolowo by the late Oba Adesoji Aderemi.
Succeeding Awolowo was the late legal icon, Chief Godwin Kolawole Ajayi, who was installed by the late Oba Okunade Sijuwade.
